Originally started from a private home in Durban by June Jansen van Vuuren.

Makaphutu then moved to a rural rented farm.

1996 Rotary purchased a 23 ha farm

1998 4 cottages built with money donated by The Natal Lotto - Operation Jumpstart

Sara Lee Cottage was completed with donations from Sara Lee, Corobrick, Shell & other corporate donors.

2004 Ten new cottages and hall completed.

Official Opening - The Minister of Housing, Rev Wilson Ngcobo, opens the new cottages

2006 The enterprise was placed under the management of The Lily of the Valley Children’s Village affiliated to The Church of England in South Africa.
